BALI: LIFE IN PARADISE

Life in Paradise - Ubud, the heart of Bali!

Ubud is the artistic heart of Bali and its surroundings are compellingly beautiful and ethereal. A walk along the lush, emerald green rice fields nudge one to look for the perfect spot to contemplate on life! Ubud was recently voted as the most popular tourist city in Asia. Technically, it’s not even a city - it’s a rambling town. This town amid a collection of villages, each dedicated to a particular art or craft, is where everything magical about Bali comes together. And Ubud does not have a beach as it is in the Central highlands - Balinese call this ‘asli Bali’, the real Bali.

The landscape of Ubud is unique. On one hand you have sweeping emerald rice terraces, watered by a unique 10th century method called subak which still works. On the other, there are these magnificent ridges, deep gorges, ravines, canyons and valleys all around. Nourished by volcanic soil and fed by rainwater, a mini forest grows in all of these gorges. These ravines have probably been created by millions of years of tectonic action. Perched on these are homes and resorts - each with its own patch of forest, which make the place stunningly beautiful.

The name Ubud originated from Ubad which means medicine. It was the source of medicinal herbs and plants many years ago and is today a thriving wellness center. Ubud is the perfect place to base yourself while in Bali. It is in the center, and you can travel North, South, East and West. It has a captivating cultural scene and its beauty goes way beyond its beautiful appearance. The surroundings of Ubud are home to many traditional cultural traditions that are still practiced. Tourists can also enjoy Bali’s culture through music, dance and architecture while in Ubud.

Offering an authentic taste of Ubud is a key part of all its retreats at BeingSattvaa. So, we integrate daily treks into waterfalls, paddy, and rainforests of Ubud. Renuka and Subba Sattvic go with their local teams to explore and curate lesser known places which are not exposed to tourist traffic. This is how every retreat group has the opportunity to immerse in the nature and culture of Ubud. Imagine being immersed in these beautiful spaces every day!

“Discover Paradise”, our next retreat in November (24 - 29) 2023, is one such retreat. We wake up to watch the sun rise over the paddy with Mount Agung, the tallest volcano in Bali, in the background, and then head off to yoga on the rainforest deck. After an energising  dose of fresh juice and fruits, we head off on a hike to explore and bathe in the rainforests of Ubud.
