9. What is so special about Balinese New year?
Bali has a 210 day calendar which begins on the day of Nyepi.
The day before Nyepi is observed through a Ogo Ogo procession taken out in every village. These processions of handmade demons speak to removal of negativity from within.
This is followed by the day of Nyepi, which is observed as a day of silent reflection throughout the island with all vehicular and human traffic off the road. Yes, the whole island goes silent.
The day after Nyepi is observed as a day of purification. And, the day after that is one of new beginnings.
Our retreat will include all the above experiences, with Subba guiding the Silent retreat at BeingSattvaa on the day of Nyepi, the fire ceremony to remove negativity, and also the intention setting for new beginnings.
